Spectacular 458 Crash at Laguna Seca

The Corkscrew turn at Laguna Seca raceway is well known to car enthusiasts and racers across the world. No matter your level of racing experience it demands your full attention and skill. The catch fence and those tires are there for a reason.

Unfortunately for Ryan Ockey the Corkscrew got the better of him during a Ferrari 458 Challenge race at Mazda Raceway. After plowing through the tires the Ferrari was thrown into the fence and onto its roof. Don’t worry though, all of the safety gear worked properly and Ryan was able to walk away with a few bumps and probably a bruised ego. Ferrari 458 Laguna Seca CrashSome report that a brake failure lead to the accident but there has been no official word on what happened.

If you’ve ever been to Laguna Seca or watched drivers negotiate the infamous turn, you know that there is no real way for a tow or lift truck to get to a vehicle in that area. It’s painful to watch (see the video below) as the 458 had to be dragged down the rest of the hill on its roof. Check out the videos of the wreck and rescue to get a better idea of what we are talking about. It’s about 2 minutes into the second video where things quickly head south for Ockey.
